The Horus Heresy

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy is a series of science fantasy novels set in the fictional Warhammer 40,000 universe. Written by multiple authors, the series takes place during the Horus Heresy, a fictional galactic civil war set in the 31st century, 10,000 years before the main setting of Warhammer 40,000. The Horus Heresy is a dark, far-future military space opera that deals with a galactic civil war within the emerging Imperium of Man, and forms a cornerstone event in the dystopian science fantasy Warhammer 40,000 universe. The Heresy is presented as an important chapter of conflict in Warhammer 40,000 lore: it is caused by a Chaos plot to thwart the Empire's leader and founder, the mysterious Emperor of Man, by promoting rebellion and internal warfare within the expanding Imperium of Man. The story focuses on the Emperor's 18 genetically engineered sons, the Primarchs, and the legions of genetically enhanced superhuman soldiers they lead, the Legiones Astartes, who find themselves divided into loyalist and traitor factions as they fight for religious supremacy.

The series consists of full-length novels, and novel-length compilations of short stories or short stories, written by a variety of authors. The series includes new characters as well as establishing the backgrounds of previously established Warhammer 40,000 characters who play an important role in the post-Heresy fictional universe. The first title was released in April 2006, and the series consists of 64 published volumes.

The Horus Heresy has also been turned into a miniatures game set in the 31st century, where the Empire is facing a civil war. The game allows players to collect and paint figures representing different factions and legions from this era and use them in tabletop strategy games. The game includes new releases, starter sets, legions, game accessories, fiction and more. It is an established and successful product line for Games Workshop's Horus Heresy sub-brand, and authoritative source for the entire Warhammer 40,000 shared universe and its continued development.
