Beginner's Guide to Lorcana:
Disney Lorcana is a new trading card game (TCG) developed by Disney and Ravensburger, known for previous collaborations on games such as Villainous. As in games like Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, you collect cards through booster packs and build decks to defeat your opponents.
Lorcana is easy to learn and works great for TCG beginners.
The story
Lorcana takes place in the kingdom of Lorcana, where you as an Illumineer discover a mysterious device called The Great Illuminary. Here, elements from Disney stories are combined to create glimmers—recreations of well-known characters and objects. Your goal is to protect the realm and find missing lore using an Inkcaster, a wand-like device.
Card types
- Floodborn: Radically different versions of famous Disney characters, using the mechanic Shift.
- Inks: The cards are divided into six colors (Amber, Steel, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Amethyst), each with its own play style.
- Action, Song, and Item Cards: Action cards provide one-time effects, Song cards can be played for free under certain conditions, and Item cards provide permanent benefits that can be used multiple times.
Game mechanics
The game revolves around collecting 20 'Lore' faster than your opponent. You use your cards to complete quests and generate Lore, while your opponent can challenge your characters in battle to thwart you. Your deck can contain a maximum of two suits, and each card has its own Ink cost, which determines how powerful it is.
